Here at the Bread & Roses we're kicking off March (and hopefully the start of spring) with a new Friday flavour - introducing the Helen McDonald trio!
This means soulful funk and afro jazz from the lady that gave us Future Groove and Yaaba Funk. Helen McDonald has played alongside the likes of Roy Ayres, Jean Tuisaint, Orphy Robinson and supported the late great Gill Scott Heron.
Her influences are wide reaching from The Rotary Connection to Jimi Hendrix, Pharoah Sanders to Sun Rah, John Coltrane to Bob Marley and Curtis Mayfield to Billie Holiday.
We're looking forward to a unique show where these influences will shine through - come join us!

It's Friday and we're welcoming Leika to our stage for an evening to remember!
LEIKA is a rock band influenced by the British post-punk and punk movements. To date, the band has recorded two albums (‘Space on Tuesday’ and ‘Love on the Run’), two singles, and two EPs on its own imprint, and released these across the world. Blistering performances at the Isle of Wight and Unsigned London festivals saw the band’s profile sky rocket, coinciding with their appearance on BBC 6 Music, for the fourth time. ITV Television have very recently taken notice of LEIKA’s rise and featured their music to several million viewers on ‘This Morning’!

You have to see LEIKA in the flesh to really appreciate how their uncompromising and intensely energetic performances have captivated the ears and hearts of audiences across the UK.

The Bread & Roses warmly welcomes the fantastic Harry Houseago to our stage!
Weaving cryptic tales of tragedy between swirling ambience and whirring, fizzing electronics, Harry stands alone on the stage, flitting between guitars, synths, drums, and a microphone, bringing his indie electronic orchestrations to life as if you were in the studio creating them with him.

His unmistakable sound and unforgettable live show won him an opening slot on the main stage of the Bath Festival 70th Anniversary weekend, headlined by Paloma Faith and Robert Plant.

That's right, it's another double bill and boy have we got a belter lined up for you on this fine Saturday!

The Meltout Crew join us for a DJ set guaranteed to be absolute fire - playing Hip Hop, Garage, Jungle and Bass and pretty much everything inbetween. Regularly shelling all across London at venues such as Prince of Peckham, Market House Brixton and London Roundhouse, these boys will even get your nan busting out her best bass face - what more could you ask for?

But wait - there's more! Supporting them are Lawn Flamingo, who make their Bread & Roses debut armed with heavy beats and crunching riffs. Not flinching at the idea of mixing influences that have no right sharing beds, Lawn Flamingo utilize the 8-Bit snarl from the electro scenesters of their teens and inject a good dose of danceable groove.

The Bread & Roses are very excited to announce Maroon Town, a reggae band from London whose name is taken from a remote upland community in Jamaica formed by escaped slaves.

From Brixton to Brazil, Manchester to Mumbai and Kingston England to Kingston Jamaica they have been hooking audiences worldwide for 30 years with their electrifying live performances.

Maroon Town have performed in prisons from Kazakhstan to Kingston, Jamaica and have recorded with local musicians and bands in countries such as Tajikistan and India.

Number one tracks, extensive radio play around the globe and Hollywood synced tracks include songs like “Fire”, “Pound to the Dollar”, “Cumbia Infernal”, “Ya Ya, Lemme Tell Dem”…

In March 2018 Maroon Town launched their latest album entitled ‘FREEDOM CALL’ on Brixton Records – 10 brand new tracks mixing high energy Jamaican ska and reggae with rap, latin, funk and soul, all, as usual, suffused with a potent message of peace and unity.
