THEATRE: Alice & Unapologetic

Bubble & Squeak Collective kick off our theatre programme this week with Unapologetic, a feast of exciting scenes and performances from published plays and new writing. One night only on June 26th.

From Tuesday 27th June to Saturday 1st July JamesArt Productions return to our theatre with their new production Alice.

Can you truly ever understand madness and what makes a person ‘mad’? Alice is a production that aims to explore the theme of mental health through an adaptation of a children’s book but for an adult audience. The piece uses Lewis Caroll’s absurdism and surrealism to discuss and educate about the way in which mental health problems may present themselves and whether a person who is deemed ‘crazy’ is truly understood by doctors and society. The piece contains some masked political comments but in a manner which is light hearted at times and gruelling at others. BOOK NOW!

Lit FM are a spiritually conscious and international Disco / Soul-Dub / Latin / Jazz-hop fusion band founded in South London in 2014. The members originate from across the UK, Italy, Poland and the US, and are fronted by award-winning Polish vocalist Karolina Micor. Unified by chance encounters and a love of groove-laden music, they quite simply broadcast positive vibes encapsulated within a style which encompasses the history of jazz music; all the way from the american and latin roots, then through funk, soul, disco and ending with hip-hop and jungle. And there's always a message involved.

Phillip Ridley's acclaimed play Radiant Vermin is coming to The Bread & Roses Theatre in a new production by Stones Theatre Company, 14th to 17th June!

The story follows a couple in their late twenties living on a council estate who are expecting a baby and one day receive a letter. It is from the government's Dream Home scheme and they are offered a brand new perfect home, no financial catch, it's theirs - but they must renovate it themselves. Miss Dee, the estate agent, appears offering the couple guidance but is everything as it seems? What is the catch? A darkly humourous play that asks the question: just how far you would go to get on the property ladder...? BOOK NOW!

Some great events lined up for fans of live music this week!

Open Mic Night
8:00 PM - 10:00 PM  Jun 7, 2017

We welcome all to our Open Mic Night, sign up from 7.30pm, with charming host. All musicians and spoken word artists welcome!

Kareem Shabazz & the Ryddim Kings

9:00 PM - 11:00 PM  Jun 9, 2017

Kareem has what it takes - looks, charisma, song writing abilities and a voice that slips with stylistic ease from Al Green like textures to echoes of Curtis Mayfield/Marvin Gaye. His music is forward looking, socially conscious, street smart soul, reggae, and dance.
When it comes to music the Ryddim Kings are serious. They write their own lyrics and melodies without the benefit of formal musical training, but they know that song craft is the name of the game.

The Bread & Roses Glastonbury Launch Party

Join us at our 2017 Glastonbury Launch Party: A fun night of music, dancing & comedy featuring artists from the 2017 Bread & Roses stage lineup *SMOOTH SAILORS* *KIMMYBEATBOX* *GECKO* & more!
